Welcome to the home of SOS Ocean Racing

Big goals, big dreams, ample enthusiasm & dedication.

SOS Ocean Racing is a sailing campaign that you can become a member of.

In 2010/11 SOS Ocean Racing will campaign in major regattas throughout Australia and also race the clock around Australia to break a world record. And you can join us onboard by bringing sponsors to our campaign

SOS Ocean Racing is an arm of the Save Our Seas Australia organisation. The concept is to create awareness in the sailing scene for the damage plastic is doing to our environment, particularly plastic bags.

By racing in major regattas we get the message out to thousands of people, however Save Our Seas Australia is also involved in other Awareness campaigns, in promoting alternatives and taking action. This includes talks to primary school students, tours of Australia and setting up clean up days in particular regions.

By joining our team you not only get to race with a world record holder on a high tech racing machine, but you also get to help our cause. All you need to do is bring along a sponsor and you will be their personal representative onboard SOS Ocean Racing for all media committments etc.

Our Boats

We have two different vessels available to us.

We have joined forces with Jim Cooney and his Brindabella for the attempt on the world record circumnavigation of Australia, fully crewed. An icon of Australian sailing, the 79ft Jutson holds many race records and the Australia circumnavigation will be the icing on the cake. She will race in the 2011 Brisbane to Gladstone before departing on the record attempt in May of the same year

The Welbourn 12m that holds the record for the fastest solo circumnavigation of Australia by a massive 26 days will be racing in the Pittwater to Coffs, Coffs to Paradise and Brisbane to Gladstone. She is a super fast planning hull that should see it up the front. Faster than a Farr 40 and very similar in polars to another Welbourn vessel Wedgetail who is currently winning everything in Brisbane, this boat will blow your mind. 900 liters of water ballast, a huge square topped mainsail and a large quiver of spinnakers means the crew will be working hard to get the full pace out of her in these great races.

For more details on each race, visit their individual pages by clicking the race name below or use the menu under the 'SOS Ocean Racing' Tab above.
